Everything you need to know about Sidebrain — your AI assistant that connects to your tools and actually gets things done.
🧠General
Sidebrain is an AI-powered productivity assistant that actually *does things* — not just talks about them. It connects to your tools (Gmail, Calendar, GitHub, Notion, Slack, and more), remembers your context across conversations with vector-powered semantic memory, and takes action on your behalf. Think of it as your AI second brain that searches the web, reads pages, drafts emails, manages tasks, runs code, and more — all from your browser or Telegram.
Unlike ChatGPT, Sidebrain connects directly to your work tools. It can read your emails, check your calendar, search your Notion docs, track GitHub PRs, and take action — all without copy-pasting between apps. Sidebrain also has persistent vector memory that remembers your preferences, projects, and decisions across conversations. Plus, with BYOK pricing, you pay significantly less than ChatGPT Plus while getting more functionality.
Yes! You can use Sidebrain on mobile through the web app in your browser, or connect via our Telegram bot for an even more seamless mobile experience. The Telegram bot supports voice messages, images, and all the same features as the web interface.
Yes! Sidebrain has a full-featured Telegram bot. After signing up, link your Telegram account in Settings. You can then chat with your AI assistant directly in Telegram — including sending voice messages (transcribed via Whisper), images for analysis, and using all integrations. Pro plan users get unlimited Telegram bot access.
You'll need the Telegram app installed on your device first — the bot runs inside Telegram, not in a web browser. Here's how to set it up: 1) Download Telegram from telegram.org if you don't have it. 2) Sign up at sidebra.in and add your API key in Settings. 3) Go to Settings → Telegram and click 'Generate Link Code' — you'll get a unique code. 4) Open @sidebrain_ai_bot in Telegram (search for it or tap t.me/sidebrain_ai_bot on a device with Telegram installed) and tap 'Start'. 5) Send the /link command followed by your code (e.g. '/link ABC123'). 6) You'll see a confirmation once linked. Now you can chat with your AI assistant directly in Telegram — it has full access to your integrations, memory, web search, and all tools. Voice messages are automatically transcribed, and you can send images for analysis too.
🚀Getting Started
BYOK means you connect your own AI provider API key (Anthropic/Claude or OpenAI). You paste your key in Settings → API Keys, and your AI requests go directly to your provider. This means transparent pricing — you see exactly what you spend in your provider's dashboard, with no hidden markups. Most users spend $5–20/month on AI calls, far less than bundled alternatives.
Sidebrain supports models from Anthropic (Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Claude 3 Opus, Claude 3 Haiku) and OpenAI (GPT-4o, GPT-4 Turbo, GPT-3.5 Turbo). You can switch between models anytime using the /model command or in settings. Your API key determines which models are available to you.
It takes about 2 minutes: 1) Create your account with Google OAuth or email at sidebra.in/sign-up. 2) Add your Anthropic or OpenAI API key in Settings. 3) Optionally connect your integrations (Gmail, GitHub, etc.). 4) Start chatting in the web app or link your Telegram account for mobile access.
🔗Integrations
Sidebrain integrates with 15+ tools including: Gmail (read, search, draft emails), Google Calendar (check schedule, find meeting times), GitHub (track PRs, create issues, search code), Notion (search docs and databases), Linear (manage issues and projects), Slack (send messages), Twitter/X (post and search), plus built-in tools for web search, code execution, image generation (DALL-E), voice transcription (Whisper), weather, stocks, news, translation, and more.
Yes! Once you connect your Google account via OAuth, Sidebrain can read and search your emails, check your calendar, and draft responses. It requests only the permissions it needs — read access by default. It won't send emails or modify your calendar without your explicit instruction. All data is fetched in real-time and not stored.
When you disconnect an integration, Sidebrain immediately loses access to that service. Your OAuth tokens are deleted, and any cached credentials are purged. Sidebrain will no longer be able to fetch data from that service. Your data on the external service (emails, repos, docs) is completely unaffected — we never modify or delete your external data.
🔒Privacy & Security
Yes. Security is a core principle of Sidebrain. All connections use TLS 1.3 encryption in transit. Sensitive data (API keys, OAuth tokens) is encrypted at rest with AES-256. We minimize data storage — when you ask Sidebrain to check your email, we fetch data in real-time, process it, and discard the raw data. We don't store email contents, calendar details, or GitHub code. Authentication is powered by Clerk (enterprise-grade), and infrastructure runs on Vercel and Supabase, both SOC 2 Type II compliant.
Sidebrain only accesses the services and permissions you explicitly grant via OAuth. With BYOK, your AI prompts go directly to your chosen provider (Anthropic/OpenAI) — we never see the content of your AI conversations at the API level. You can revoke any integration's access at any time, and you can request full data deletion under GDPR/CCPA.
💰Pricing
Sidebrain has two plans: Free — includes your own API key, 10 messages per day, web search & browsing, and basic tools. Pro ($19/month, down from $29 at launch pricing) — includes unlimited messages, vector memory & personality, all tools & integrations, Telegram bot access, custom soul/personality, and priority support. Pro includes a 7-day free trial. On top of this, you pay your AI provider directly for usage (typically $5–20/month for most users).
ChatGPT Plus costs $20/month with no integrations. With Sidebrain Pro at $19/month plus typical AI costs of $5–15/month, you get more functionality (integrations, memory, actions) often for a similar or lower total cost. Plus, you see exactly what you're spending — no hidden markups on AI usage. Most AI SaaS products mark up AI costs 2–5x; with BYOK, you pay provider rates directly.
⚙️Features & Troubleshooting
Sidebrain uses vector-powered semantic memory — not simple keyword matching. When you tell it to remember something, it stores the information in a vector database tied to your account. In future conversations, Sidebrain semantically searches your memories to find relevant context. This means it can recall your preferences, projects, important decisions, and past conversations. Memory persists across sessions and gets smarter over time as you interact more.
Sidebrain comes with 24+ built-in tools: web search, page reading & summarization, code execution (with package installation), image generation (DALL-E), voice transcription (Whisper), reminders & scheduling, stock prices, weather, news, YouTube summaries, translation, QR code generation, recipes, package tracking, unit conversion, and more. All available from a single chat interface.
Try these steps: 1) Disconnect and reconnect the integration in Settings → Integrations. 2) Make sure you've authorized the correct permissions (especially for GitHub organization repos — you may need org admin approval). 3) Clear your browser cache and try again. 4) For Google integrations, ensure you've enabled the required APIs in your Google Cloud Console.
